George Benson

It was in 1991 that George Benson performed in The Hague. Under my coat, I had brought my much too large camera. Digital picture-taking was not yet possible then. For me, it was shooting on a whim because I didn't have much experience with photography. I came quite far forward to take my picture. It was then a bit exciting to see how the photo would turn out after development... For years, Benson hung in our living room. The photo turned out great and I was very proud!

George Benson

George Benson (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 22 March 1943) is an American jazz guitarist. Benson began singing in nightclubs at the age of eight. In 1954, he recorded his first LP, and in 1960 he formed a rock band, in which he played guitar and sang. Influenced by Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery, he began playing jazz in the mid-1960s. He played with, among others, Miles Davis and as an accompanist for Lou Donaldson. During this time, he developed into one of the best jazz guitarists in the world. In the 1970s, he recorded a series of albums for Creed Taylor's CTI label, until he switched to Warner Brothers in 1976, where he scored a million-selling hit with This Masquerade.
