For me personally, Guus Meeuwis is a kind of "guilty pleasure". Secretly been to a concert once and still wish to go to "Groots met een zachte G" in the PSV stadium. I can sing along almost flawlessly to a number of songs and my favourite remains "Brabant". A goosebump moment when I think back to Brabant, because there the light still burns.
Guus Meeuwis
Guus Meeuwis (23 March 1972) was born in the local monastery of Mariahout, a village in the current municipality of Laarbeek, where his parents temporarily lived. He grew up in the neighbouring village of Lieshout. Meeuwis attended the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum and then studied law at Tilburg University. At Stella Maris College, it quickly became clear that Meeuwis was artistically and musically gifted. After a romantic weekend in Bruges with his girlfriend Valérie, he wrote the song Het is een nacht... Representing the Tilburg Student Corps Sint Olof, Meeuwis and his accompanying group won the first AHC Student Song Festival in 1994 at ALSV Quintus in Leiden with this song. The group was then offered a record contract by talent scout Willem van Schijndel. Thus the group Guus Meeuwis & Vagant was formed (named after Meeuwis's favourite café and his "student friends"). This accompanying group originally consisted of Marc Meeuwis, Jan Willem Rozenboom, Hugo van Bilsen, Robin van Beek and Dirk Oerlemans. In 2001, the band Vagant ceased to exist and Meeuwis focused on a solo career.
On 27 April 1996, the debut album Verbazing was released, which was already gold before its release and entered the Album Top 100 at number 1. The album was listed in the album charts for more than 70 weeks and eventually achieved double platinum status, meaning that at least 200,000 copies were sold at the time.
Groots met een zachte G
Guus Meeuwis - Groots met een zachte G is a Dutch concert series that has taken place annually in the Philips Stadion since 2006. In a few years, the event has grown into a leading music event in the Netherlands where all kinds of different songs come together with surprising guest artists and sets with special effects. In addition, Groots met een zachte G is one of the longest-running concert series in the Benelux.
