Heart

In 1963, Steve Fossen founded the band Army with brothers Mike and Roger Fisher. The band name soon changed to White Heart and was later shortened to simply Heart. After ten years, the group was expanded with female voices.

I Heart You

The group quickly became more than just professionally involved with each other. When Ann Wilson joined the group, she began a relationship with guitarist Mike Fisher, who later focused on the band's sound engineering. Ann's sister, Nancy, found love with Roger Fisher when she joined.

Success

In 1975, Heart, with a record contract in hand, recorded the debut album Dreamboat Annie. 'Crazy On You' is one of the successful singles from that album. The follow-up (our Sunday Morning Classic) Little Queen includes the successful single 'Barracuda'. In the following years, breaks were taken, solo projects developed and new loves found. But Heart is still around: In 2004, Jupiters Darling was released, in 2010 Red Velvet Car.

In 2012, Heart received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Furthermore, that year saw the release of the box set Strange Euphoria (June) with hits, demos and rare live recordings, the autobiography Kicking and Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock and Roll (September) and the brand new studio album Fanatic (October). In the same year, the Wilson sisters performed at the Kennedy Center Honors as a tribute to Led Zeppelin. They played Stairway to Heaven in an arrangement with strings and choir. Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham, the drummer of Led Zeppelin who died in 1980, played drums. The members of Led Zeppelin and Michele and Barack Obama were in the audience.

Sunday Morning Classic

On Sunday 23 June 2023, Heart was the focus at De Platenbar as Sunday Morning Classic with their album Little Queen from 1977.

"Little Queen" is the second studio album. The album is considered one of their most successful and influential works. It is a dynamic collection of songs ranging from powerful rock to melodic ballads. The album opens with the hit "Barracuda", an exciting and powerful track with a recognisable guitar riff and the distinctive vocal harmonies of sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. It is one of the band's most iconic songs and embodies the energetic rock style they are known for.

The album also contains other memorable songs, such as "Kick It Out", which has a catchy rhythm and a memorable chorus, and "Little Queen", a beautiful ballad that emphasises Ann Wilson's emotional vocal abilities. The Wilson sisters show their versatility as songwriters and performers by exploring a wide range of musical styles.

What sets this album apart is the powerful and heartfelt performance of the songs. The Wilson sisters unleash their powerful voices on every track, bringing them to life with passion and emotion. The instrumental arrangements are also impressive, with guitar solos that are both technically skilled and expressive.

"Little Queen" is an essential album for rock music lovers. It combines the raw energy of 70s rock with the musical finesse and emotional depth that characterises Heart. The album has stood the test of time and remains a timeless work that is still relevant and inspiring. It is a true masterpiece from a band that has earned its place in music history.
