Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Originally founded in 1996 as Xero by friends Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, and Mike Shinoda, Joseph Hahn, Dave Farrell, and Chester Bennington later joined the lineup. Linkin Park broke through in 2000 with the debut album "Hybrid Theory," which achieved diamond status in the United States and multi-platinum in several other countries. The band was successful with songs such as "In the End," "Numb," "Faint," and "What I've Done," and has sold over sixty million albums worldwide since its formation, winning two Grammys.
With their second studio album "Meteora," the band continued the mainstream nu metal/rap-rock sound that made them famous with "Hybrid Theory." The 2007 release "Minutes to Midnight" saw the band largely leave nu metal behind and move towards alternative rock, with an emphasis on experimenting with other musical styles. The electronic rock album "A Thousand Suns" was released in September 2010. On 22 June 2012, the fifth studio album "Living Things" was released, combining previous albums to create a new sound. In the summer of 2014, the sixth studio album "The Hunting Party" was released. Three years later, in 2017, their seventh album "One More Light" followed, in which they radically changed style and moved more towards pop.
On 20 July 2017, singer Chester Bennington committed suicide.
