Mark Knopfler

Mark Freuder Knopfler (Glasgow, 12 August 1949) is a British singer and guitarist. He became especially known as the frontman of the British rock band Dire Straits. His famous guitar playing seems like a cross between the ethereal sound of The Shadows by Hank B. Marvin and the fingerpicking style of J.J. Cale. Knopfler's low nasal voice evokes memories of Bob Dylan and also J.J. Cale.

In 1990 he played in the country band "The Notting Hillbillies". His way of playing guitar was clearly reflected in the country sound of the band. The band was founded by Mark Knopfler and recorded the album Missing.... presumed having a good time. After a series of performances, all band members focused on their main acts, only performing on special occasions.

His first solo album was called Golden Heart and was released in 1996.
